What is Kapton Tape?

Kapton tape is produced by combining DuPont® Kapton® Type HN Film with high temperature silicone adhesive. Kapton tapes have great

electrical, thermal, chemical and mechanical properties that withstand extreme temperature, vibration, and other demanding environments.

It is often used in electrical

applications such as coil insulation, capacitor and transformer wrapping, magnetic wire insulation, wave soldering and high temperature

masking. For electronic components that require extra protection from static discharge, Anti Static (ESD) polyimide tape is available. And for fabricating or mounting applications requiring adhesive

on two or both sides double sided polyimide tape is recommended. DuPontTM and Kapton® are trademarks or registered trademarks of E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company.

Kapton Tape Specifications

Kapton Tape Applications

Kapton® has been used in electrical components in sectors like the automotive, marine, aeronautical, aerospace, and locomotive industries. Kapton® Tape can be used to wrap wires, switches, diaphragms, sensors or heated coil components like those commonly found in seat heaters (warmers).

Electrical Insulation

Some of Kapton tape’s primary uses are in electrical applications such as coil insulation, capacitor and transformer wrapping or insulation, and magnetic wire insulation.

High Temperature Soldering Mask

Kapton tape is commonly used to protect electrical components during soldering. It is effective for both hand-soldering and mass soldering applications, such as wave soldering. In the electronics

industry, Kapton tape is applied to circuit boards before wave soldering to shield gold fingers from the solder material and prevent unwanted electrical connections. The tape is also easy to trim

with a razor blade and can be used as a temporary dust cover for ports in devices.
